When I was living in post-war Sarajevo, I happened to witness a number of meetings during which foreign Islamists enticed impoverished locals to deepen their public display of Islam with money and promises..."I pay you $300 a month if wife and daughters wear hijjab, $800 if wear burqa..." and so on.
When the US invaded Iraq in 2003, I thought again about political Islam and how it spreads like desert sand in the wind. Watching the Arab Spring rise and fall, and then Syria collapse refreshed my desert wind concept.
lyrics
Desert wind on your shoulder, desert wind.
Everything has grown bolder, everything.
Chorus
Rebel sins burn and smolder, rebel sins.
Everything just grows colder, everything.
Chorus
You say you got a lot of nerve now baby,
Is that what you need?
You say you live by your heart now baby,
Well I’ll make it bleed.
